Countable and Uncountable Nouns

Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the words in brackets.  The first one (0) is done for you.

 
My family owns a large farmhouse built on top of a hill.  It has a blue aluminium roof and several large (0) windows (window) that allow the entire house to receive a sufficient amount of (1) __________ (sunlight) during the (2) ________ (day) as well as a lot of cool (3) _________ (air) in the evening. 

 

Behind the house lies a sprawling coconut (4) _________ (plantation) that is inhabited by many kinds of (5) _________ (flora) and (6) _________fauna.  In the middle runs a small river that contains several kinds of freshwater (7) ________ (life), including (8) _________ (fish), (9) _________ (prawn) and (10) ________ (crab).  It is a common meeting (11) _________ (place) for the village (12) ___________ (child) who usually bring along their bamboo fishing (13) _________ (rod) and small (14) _________ (bottle) of wriggling (15) _________ (earthworm).  There is always a lot of (16) _________ (laugh) by the river bank where a herd of (17) __________ (cow) grazes lazily. 

 

Next to the house is a large (18) ________ (barn) where many things are being stored. My father has left some of his farming (19) _________ (equipment) on the barn (20) ___________ (floor), while my mother has put some used (21) __________ (furniture) beside the farming tools.  Several sacks of unmilled (22) __________ (rice) are stacked at one corner.  At another corner are several jars of rice (23) __________ (wine) and bottles of (24) __________ (honey).  I think my sister has hidden some rare (25) __________ (currency) and (26) __________ (jewellery) under its parquet floor.

     

Adjacent to the house is a spacious kitchen with some (27) _________ (firewood) and (28) __________ (charcoal) stacked neatly at one corner.  There is a wooden cupboard filled with two dozen (29) _________ (bottle) of preserved ___________ (30) ____________ (vegetable), (31), dried __________ (fruit) and salted (34) _________ (meat).  A few packets of brown (35) _________ (sugar), (36) ___________ (flour), and (37) __________ (noodle) are neatly stacked on the top of the cupboard.  Next to it is a small rat trap with some (38) ________ (bait) made from prawn (39) _________ (paste). 

 

Beside the kitchen stand two large tanks that are used to collect (40) __________ (rainwater).  They always overflow in the months of November and December as the rainy _________ (41) season occurs during these two months. 

 

Just a stone’s throw away is a deep well where we collect pails of crystal clear (42) ___________ (water) during a drought.  At the bottom of the well are some black (43) ___________ (eel) and (44) __________ (tortoise).  Besides the well is a large patch of elephant (45) __________ (grass), which is a hiding place for (46) ___________ (rodent) and small (46) _________ (reptile).  There are a few (47) ___________ (deer), (48) __________ (boar) and (49) ___________ (skunk) roaming nearby too.
